Without Harris technology, Congressman Posey said, war fighters "we wouldn't be in a fair fight. The last thing we want is for our guys to be in a fair fight," adding that American soldiers always have an advantage because of radio technology from the Melbourne company.
Both Congressman Posey and Sen. Nelson praised the center and expressed their appreciation for Harris making the choice last year to keep their headquarters in Central Florida after their merger with the Virginia-based Exelis Inc.
With over 6,500 employees based in Florida, Harris Corp. hopes to use the center to underscore the company's commitment to the state and its long history of innovation in the technology center.
A new version of Atlas, designed to operate outdoors and inside buildings. It is specialized for mobile manipulation. It is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated. It uses sensors in its body and legs to balance and LIDAR and stereo sensors in its head to avoid obstacles, assess the terrain, help with navigation and manipulate objects. This version of Atlas is about 5' 9" tall (about a head shorter than the DRC Atlas) and weighs 180 lbs.
